For Some of Us

by Marcia Mitrowski

So easy to disappear into words,
syllables open their mouths for us

and we dive into their vowels round
as a rose singing to the sun

even as the moon obscures light
how fiery script escapes the corona

leaving language in the atmosphere
we learn to translate in silence

and awe, our eyes slowly adjusting
to the message we’re not alone,

nature above and below waltzing
around us in three quarter time.
