Embarking
by Marcia Mitrowski
They write about distant homes
and the green of their country,
trees, mountains, vegetables
singing out in the fields, fruit
that falls from branches
dancing during the night.
They miss their neighbors
full of fiesta and noise
whose music repairs hips
and they gyrate gracefully
filled with remembrance,
flat bread flipped in open air,
crusty edges dropping crumbs
for birds who collect dreams
and scatter hope in a new land.
