moonlight takes a path

by Jua Ng

a girl is quiet
when the world is; shoes will
leave unclaimed
when they cross over
sorrow.
the porch lights
for a moment, flicker. a firefly
becomes a pearl.
a flower bouquet
nestles over her heart,
brittle and stiff.
she is wet; the warmth
i hoped to see
returned, wrapped her head
instead, in grief.
i should have stopped
when i knew
hope had finished its thought
and left me
nothing more to say,
but i waited
a moment.
the path was long on
the opposite
end; the girl was bathed
in luminosity.
she took herself
with nothing else
and moved
to pass. and the tree turned
a mirror 'round.

Jua Ng likes philosophical and elusive poetry. Unplugged from social media, she finds contentment in books, chocolate bites, and the sweetness under the rind.
