A Cosmos on Cloth
by Marcia MitrowskiZahra’s abayas,
robe-like dresses,
contain colors that
take my breath away,
my fingers reach to touch
the soft material to check
is it real, of this universe?
How her bright reds glow
with rubies, green carries
spring vegetation, its juices,
her ocean blues cultivated by
luminous creatures who sing
in the language of fish. Purple
blended from ancient pain
and loss, swirling as if planets
bound themselves with forget-
me-nots into a microcosm
only few can comprehend.
