And Just Like That I Was a
Child Again
by Angela Hoffman
I discovered one lone pink plastic egg still hiding,
nestled in the hollow of the mulberry
where I was weeding among dark shadows;
sweetness stuck in the throat of the tree,
never found in the Easter hunt.
I emptied the contents into my hand,
unwrapped and swallowed innocence
while something stirred inside.
