On Earth
by Laura Foley
I find myself, this cloudy spring day,
on a quiet country road,
wild geese nesting in cow-fields
on one hand, idle blackbirds
singing in wetlands, on the other,
streams trickling free of ice,
beavers sinking calmly
into a pond’s deepest corners,
the air glad as moss for its moisture,
the sky a great arch
of pearled grey, in me,
as it is in heaven.
